Physiological Responses and Tolerance of Halophyte Sesuvium portulacastrum L. to Cesium

چکیده

Cesium (Cs) is a soil contaminant and toxic to the ecosystem, especially plant species. In this study, we have assessed potential of halophyte Sesuvium portulacastrum for its Cs tolerance accumulation. Thirty days old S. plants were subjected different concentrations (0, 5, 10, 25, 50, 150 mg·L−1 Cs) using cesium chloride. The biomass photosynthetic pigments not affected up 25 treatment while significant decline in pigment levels was observed at higher concentrations. treatments increased protein content low inhibitory. Under exposure, induction antioxidant enzymes such as ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR), superoxide dismutase (SOD) observed. enzyme activities upregulated 50 but decreased significantly mg·L−1. accumulation dose tissue-dependent evidenced by leaves (536.10 μg·g−1) compared stem (413.74 roots (284.69 μg·g−1). results suggest that hyper-accumulator could be useful phytoremediation Cs-contaminated soils.

Hairy root induction and phytoremediation of textile dye, Reactive green 19A-HE4BD, in a halophyte, Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L.

In this study, we report phytoremediation of textile dyes using hairy roots derived through Agrobacterium rhizogenes (NCIM 5140) infection of in vitro leaf and stem explants of a halophyte Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L. Leaf explants showed higher frequency of hairy root induction (70%) than stem explants (30%), and maximum number of roots (leaf 42.3 ± 2.4 and stem 50.3 ± 1.7). Transformed nat...

Sesuvium portulacastrum L., (family: Aizoaceae), commonly known as “sea purslane” has long been used as food and traditional medicine. Traditionally plants are used in the treatment of epilepsy, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, haematuria, leprosy, purgative, fever, kidney disorders, and scurvy and also used to therapy toothache. Leaves have acidulous flavor of sorrel as well as antiscorbutic. The p...

Cd and Ni transport and accumulation in the halophyte Sesuvium portulacastrum: implication of organic acids in these processes

The implication of organic acids in Cd and Ni translocation was studied in the halophyte species Sesuvium portulacastrum. Citric, fumaric, malic, and ascorbic acids were separated and quantified by HPLC technique in shoots, roots and xylem saps of plants grown on nutrient solutions added with 50 μM Cd, 100 μM Ni and the combination of 50 μM Cd + 100 μM Ni. Results showed that Cd had no signific...

OBJECTIVES The fatty acid methyl esters (FAME extract) from Sesuvium (S.) portulacastrum was studied for its fatty acid composition and antimicrobial activity against human pathogenic microorganisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS AND RESULTS The gas chromatographic analysis of FAME extract revealed the presence of palmitic acid with the highest relative percentage (31.18%), followed by oleic acid (21...
